Notice about Layout

The internet is a volatile technical space and changed immensely since the blog started in 2014 and some browser/device combinations now disrupt the layout of this blog. The data sequence is Burial/Memorial Location, followed by the Names. There is a blank space placed after the last name for clarity - but this doesn't work reliably anymore. A custom first post

For those who are curious, John Parr who died near Mons and is buried at St Symphorien Cemetery is generally acknowledged as the first commonwealth death in action of the First World War.

For this reason the official start of the blog is tomorrow, however if you examine the records at Commonwealth War Graves Commission you will discover that these 327 names were listed.

*Updated 4/10/2014: since this blog post was created, I have been able to created appropriately dated entries for the days leading up to John Parr's death.  So this post is now outdated, and I have removed the names so that they are correctly recorded on their 100th anniversary.  The post has now been moved to 3rd August to leave the data posts un sullied by my thoughts

Prior to this correction, the title of this post was:
"A custom first post, this lists the 327 fallen whose date of death preceeds John Parr, who died 100 years ago tomorrow - Fri 21/08/1914"
And it contained the 327 names.  It was originally posted 20/8/2014 at 11am.
