Notice about Layout

The internet is a volatile technical space and changed immensely since the blog started in 2014 and some browser/device combinations now disrupt the layout of this blog. The data sequence is Burial/Memorial Location, followed by the Names. There is a blank space placed after the last name for clarity - but this doesn't work reliably anymore. Special Post - Private Ernest Cartman

2557 Private Ernest Cartman of the 4th Northumberland Fusiliers.  He died 17/11/1916

He only became known to our family this year as an (almost) throw away comment in an email to the family researcher (my Ma).

He died on this day and is buried at Heilly Station Cemetery near Mericourt-L'Abbe on the Somme.

I was lucky enough to be able to get to his grave earlier this year on my BBBR pilgrimage, this is the cross I laid, and the grave as it was that day.
